Passage Review

Passage is my go-to example when discussing the topic of "games as art," as well as the inadequacy of the term "game" in describing interactive art. $0.99 is a steal for this must-play experience, so do yourself a favor and buy this "game."

Something that more games should strive to be

This game, as a few people have said, IS almost more an art project than a game, but that doesnt make it any less valuable. Its really a touching and interesting game, and definitely worth the dollar I paid. I love games that are thought provoking, and while normal puzzle games are great, this is a good direction for games to go in.

Flawless

Its a wonderful game that expresses the human condition...and the price we pay for decisions in life.. Like whether or not to explore the world as much as we can or get married to a beautiful woman...but it is more restricting as you miss out you "opportunity" to explore as much...and the treasure which is usually empty can relate to the rewards we seek out in life...very deep...

A Monumentally Important Game

All game developers need to play this game. This is an example of what games need to become.

Still my favorite iPhone and Mac game

Its a thought provoking, fascinating game - the antithesis of mindless video games that are popular today.

Not fun, not profound

There are two reasons you might want to play Passage: (1) You think it might be fun; (2) You think it might be artful and deep. Let me disabuse you of those hopes. There is no question of it being fun—it is an unremarkable, thin, tedious game by any measure, and the iOS controls make an already clunky interface downright unpleasant. You will not hear even its fans describe it as fun. Is it art? Well, there does seem to be a certain class of people who find this game profound and meaningful. It is—Ill grant you—one of the very few games that deals with the tragic, ominous, and inevitable nature of death. But this treatment is quite cursory and minimal. Its hard for me to imagine anyone seriously "tearing up"—as some have reported doing—as the 5-minute game reaches its end. The road to this games "deep insights" is so tedious and banal, that whatever delight you might gain from experiencing its postage-stamp portrait of life, memory, marriage, material pursuit, and death is hardly worth the time it takes to reach it. If this is the height of game art, then the state of game art is pretty dismal. No surprise there. In any case, this app is not worth your $.99. Download it for free online. Be delighted or bemused—your choice. Pay for it and youll regret it.

Great game but not perfect

Its a really good game, but part of the game is that no matter what you do, you end up the same, and the obstacles are obstacles of life, the only problem is you spawn in an area where there are no obstacles and can walk straight through. Great artistic game otherwise.

Pass on this one

Santa Monica Studios Journey on ps3 does it way better, with a game that is actually fun to play and genuinely moving. This game is not fun, moving, or artistic. It only cost me a dollar, but I wish Id bought a coke.

Classic

Jason Rohers classic game. The use and the significance of gameplay is interesting, however, the story is not as amusing as some might expect. Still, better than 99% of App Store "games"

Strangely wonderful.

A strangely wonderful game. I will not say more so I dont ruin the experience. I had my wife play it and she burst into tears before the games end. Little replay value but its an experience that begs to be shares. Some people complain about the cost for a short game but I think the unique nature of the game and message makes it worth it.

Meta art game

I liked it, but it isnt entertainment. And doesnt worth the price. Im a failed developer myself, but I think this would be a good free game. As a game it has some nuances and I can appreciate the art on how hard it is to come up with this and code it. Just like a painter can appreciate Picaso. But it isnt pretty. It isnt cool. And it isnt fun. Its also not such an effort that it should worth charging and it would never pay off if it hadnt gone viral, luckily for the dev. That being said... I bought it after watching a unite presentation by sonys Mike Forster, in which he just loved this game and another guy in the audience, and then at least it does help me inspiring into making my own stuff... Look for cregox game soon enough! :P

Interesting. Not for me. Hate the graphics.

Interesting concept for an interective experience. But meh, not for me. Boring.
